Antenna to Antenna Coupling on Big Ship with CST MWS?
Hi
I need to calculate coupling between two antenna which are placed somewhere on the ship. I have couple of question about that ? As far as I know, I need to use integral solver for the simulations am I right ?
Which file format works best for CST to import the ship 3D file ?
What should I do to find the antenna coupling between the antennas ?
Thanks
Yes, you need to use Integral Solver (Method of Moments).
In general you need to import 3D shape, apply ports and simulate. For Method of Moments the best format would be Nastran, but when you import SAT, IGES or whatever else the tool should be able to mesh it by itself.
What are the frequencies?
Thanks for your quick reply. We have couple of HF VHF and UHF antennas, what we are going to do is to find the coupling for different antenna placements.
I do not have specific info about the antennas but I will get them sooner. What kind of port fits best for this type of problems. I saw in one of examples, they use "Discrete Face Port". If you have monopoles and dipoles what are the suitable port types ?
Thanks again
Regards
Actually such kind of problems are new for CST. They are more standard for Method of Moment codes like FEKO. Have you seen CST-2010 presentationar webinar? They consider there very similar problem - antenna placement on the ship.
To see English or Chinese version you need to register for free here:
http://www.cst.com/2010/
(see there '2010 webinar available on demand (English language)')
But Italian version is directly available as video (you can still see English slides with problem desription):

For monopoles and dipoles both waveguide or lumped ports can be used - depending on the structure and details you include in simulation. So, it depends.
